  9. The new XTension package FlowMaster helps users of QuarkXPress for
  10. Macintosh to avoid unwanted text reflows. The problem is well-known
  11. to many users: when exchanging documents between different systems,
  12. platforms or different versions of QuarkXPress, one often encounters
  13. unwanted text reflows that remain unnoticed until the document is
  14. exposed or printed. Reasons for such unwanted reflows can be:
  15.  
  16. - different or missing fonts
  17. - different preference settings
  18. - different hyphenation languages
  19. - different QuarkXPress versions
  20. - ...
  21.  
  22. These problems can now easily be handled with FlowMaster. This new
  23. XTension is actually two tools in one:

  25. The first main feature of FlowMaster is its ability to record the
  26. text flow and to later compare this recorded information with the
  27. current text flow. This comparison reveals any reflows that might
  28. have happened inbetween. Of course, this feature can be used
  29. automatically: FlowMaster records the text flow whenever the document
  30. is saved and checks every opened document for unwanted reflows. Thus,
  31. you can be sure that a document opens with exactly the same text flow
  32. as it was last saved by its author.

  34. And there's more: FlowMaster is accompanied by the freeware XTensions
  35. FlowWatch for both the Macintosh and the Windows platform. These
  36. XTensions automatically store text flow information when a document
  37. is saved. This information can later be used by FlowMaster to detect
  38. unwanted reflows. Since FlowWatch is free, everyone who, for example,
  39. sends his documents to a service bureau for exposure can benefit of
  40. FlowMaster's reflow detection feature, provided that the service
  41. bureau uses FlowMaster. The FlowWatch for Windows XTension offers the
  42. same advantage to QuarkXPress for Windows users who send their
  43. documents to a Mac based service bureau.

  45. The second main feature of FlowMaster lets you lock the text flow of
  46. a document to let it keep its line breaks and hyphenations, even if
  47. the size of the text boxes change or the auto-hyphenation settings of
  48. QuarkXPress are modified. This allows you to transfer a text from one
  49. QuarkXPress version to another one with a different hyphenation
  50. language. While QuarkXPress normally refuses to apply automatic
  51. hyphenation to texts with a different language setting, locked text
  52. keeps its hyphenations as if they were all manually entered by the
  53. user. Indeed, the only difference between locked line breaks and
  54. hyphenations as opposed to those entered by the user is, that locked
  55. text can be easily unlocked again.
